When your water breaks early: Caring for yourself at home

If your water breaks before 37 weeks of pregnancy, it is called Premature Rupture of the Membranes (or PROM). Some people call it Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (or PPROM). PPROM causes 30-40% of preterm births. The information on this handout can help you and your baby stay safe and healthy after PROM.
