The Best Birth Clinic in the Maternity Ambulatory Program of BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre has been discontinued as of April 30, 2019.

The obstetricians who work at BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre (BC Women's) will continue to see patients for vaginal birth after caesarean and malpresentation consultations, but these consults will no longer take place in the Maternity Ambulatory Program at BC Women's through the Best Birth Clinic (BBC) but rather in their private offices.

How do I arrange for a Vaginal Birth after Caesarean (VBAC) consult?

You should talk to your doctor or midwife to arrange a consult with a BC Women's obstetrician.  

You should be registered to deliver at BC Women's.  If your local hospital does not offer VBAC service, you may be accepted to deliver at BC Women's if you are planning a VBAC delivery.

How do I arrange an urgent consultation for malpresentation (breech)?

If you have a malpresentation at 36 weeks or later in your pregnancy, your doctor or midwife can refer you to a BC Women's Obstetrician for a consult and ongoing care if appropriate.

Will external cephalic versions (ECV) and vaginal breech deliveries continue to be offered now that the BBC will no longer operate?

Yes, the hospital will continue to offer both of these services but the way that the care is accessed will change.
