Registered Dietitians provide expertise in the delivery and promotion of quality nutritional care to children, youth, women and their families.
Dietitians at BC Women's work to optimize nutrition in order to support healing, growth, development and well being. Nutrition care spans childhood from premature infants to teens transitioning to adult care. They provide care through a variety of clinics and programs and this includes everything from basic nutrition counselling to acute care nutrition management including enteral and parenteral feeding in NICU, to long term diet modification.
Dietitians work within outpatient clinics and on the inpatient wards at BC Women’s. They assess the nutritional status and needs of patients at risk of less-than-optimal nutrition. They develop, implement, monitor and adjust nutritional care plans based on this assessment and each patient’s ongoing medical condition.
Patient and family education on nutrition and diet modification is provided as needed either on site or via telehealth. Dietitians work closely with the Milk Handling Room which supports feeding for neonates and infants.
