Midwifery Model of Care
Midwives are experts in low-risk pregnancy and birth. They provide primary care to women during pregnancy, labour, birth, and to both mother and baby in the immediate postpartum period. Their focus is on the optimum physical, emotional and psychological well-being of both mothers and their newborns. The midwifery model of care supports a woman's right to choose throughout her pregnancy and birth experience, and promotes the natural, physiologic progression of labour and birth.
